"Waiting in the Wings," an original contemporary dance work choreographed by Larry Keigwin, is a journey through the eyes of a dancer from the street to the dressing room, to warming up backstage to the full stage experience. It is performed by senior contemporary dance students from the School of Dance, with a crew of Filmmaking and Design & Production students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
“It’s a journey that the audience watches from the perspective of the dancer, but also from the voyeuristic perspective as well. We’ve been missing the theater for the past year and I hope that the audience feels a sense of anticipation and excitement,” says Keigwin.
Guest artist and former School of Dance choreographic resident Ja’ Malik worked with contemporary students during a winter workshop to create a new work.
Choreography by Ja' Malik, Music “Counting in C” (Jad Abumrad remix), Lighting by Brent LaFever, Cinematography and Editing by Willow Longbrake, and featuring fourth-year contemporary dancers.

An egg gives birth to fluid life forms, in a dance duet that embodies the moment consciousness & physical being become governed by space & time.
This experimental independent short film explores the catharsis of re-birth, navigating the spectrum of grief, whilst mourning a false sense of self, and accepting change. Within the suspension of the gender binary; the human beings take their first real breaths.

Nothing is pretty and perfect. So, here is my process in the raw.
Dance is hilarious - if you take it too seriously, you’ll just lose the whole point of doing it.

My fav part about choreographing is the process of moving with and against inner dialogues…. Hehe
No edits, no cutting out the parts that look too weird or is “bad dancing” for social media, just the raw thing... You can’t get quality without working through the ugly parts.

Thank you all that worked and inspired this short film, you all inspire me immensely!
This short film portrays modes of masculinity found within dance, movement, and bodies. Allowing space to seep into the vast fluid spectrum.

Plasticity is finding what is possible within the self and painting the environment with individuality. It is about finding the colors in life that paint who you are inside. Acceptance of self and its ability to change, adapt and variate are all defined within the concept of Plasticity. The ever-changing mind and body is a fluid equation of inputting endless forms for itself to embody as possibilities, identities, and emotions.
An Agreement is an alternative rendition of Plasticity, created in November 2021.
Thank you to all who contributed to this work.
