This 2-day process was based on play, chance, and movement pathways and their relation to direction. The title Pancakes is taken from the first devising activity. The dancers had to impulsively name a household object and perform an instinctually associated movement action - This lead to us building a container of base layers to pull from when composing. Spatula became a queue word out of this game, associating itself with flipping a pancake. Holes and pathways were another huge part of this dance game, seeking negative spaces and moving through them, whether it’d be individually or with a partner with an assortment of rules. This piece is not a formal one. It was an experimental opportunity for researching movement and composition.
