Waiting in the Wings

Short Dance Film by Larry Keigwin

"Waiting in the Wings," an original contemporary dance work choreographed by Larry Keigwin, is a journey through the eyes of a dancer from the street to the dressing room, to warming up backstage to the full stage experience. It is performed by senior contemporary dance students from the School of Dance, with a crew of Filmmaking and Design & Production students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

“It’s a journey that the audience watches from the perspective of the dancer, but also from the voyeuristic perspective as well. We’ve been missing the theater for the past year and I hope that the audience feels a sense of anticipation and excitement,” says Keigwin.

Choreographer and guest artist Larry Keigwin worked with contemporary dancers from UNCSA School of Dance to create a short film, "Waiting in the Wings," which takes a close look at the tense moments before a performer steps onto the stage. See how the film came together — from Zoom rehearsals to filming on campus and beyond.

With special thanks to composer Curtis Macdonald, whose original music from the film is featured in this behind-the-scenes video.
